Abstract: The concept of deliberative democracy receives a particular conception of democratic legitimacy, according to which any rule, institution or policy must be justified by a public deliberative process. On the one hand, the main function of this concept is to provide regulatory criteria from which to assess the actual political institutions. On the other hand, beyond some basic normative elements, it should be noted that the concept of deliberative democracy has taken various competing conceptions, which can be classified as liberal, republican and critical. Currently we are witnessing a remarkable proliferation of republican deliberative conceptions. That is why, in this paper we will reconstruct and evaluate the answers given by renowned republican 's deliberativists, at the same time as offering an alternative proposal of institutional design.
