This study combines social-historical and functional analysis of a small watershed under a regional perspective; it tries to understand past patterns of use and identify weaknesses and strengths towards an integrated management plan for land and water. This analysis revealed that, in terms of its operation, this small watershed depends on a regional hydrological flow system connected to adjacent basins, and that interrelationships between natural and social components, and organized social movements were key aspects in its rescue, and in the creation of an adaptive dynamic management program.
