Resumen
MARTINEZ GODOY, Diego. Is deterritorialization a notion to explain the contemporary rural world? A reading from the Ecuadorian highlands. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2020, vol.20, n.62, pp.845-870. Epub 26-Mayo-2020. ISSN 2448-6183. https://doi.org/10.22136/est20201491.
After reviewing different theories analyzing the fragmentation of rural spaces, this article proposes the use of the concept of ‘deterritorialization’ to explain the rural world in the present century. Based on a case study in an Andean peasant zone of Ecuador, the measurement of deterritorialization is considered to give an account of the degree of progress of this process, as well as of the different actors’ positions in relation to it. Finally, the possibilities of generating endogenous collective action initiatives useful for the recovery of the control of a productive chain by local actors are intended to be discussed.
