Abstract

ROSENDO CHAVEZ, Alejandro; HERRERA TAPIA, Francisco; VIZCARRA BORDI, Ivonne  and  BACA TAVIRA, Norma. Rural territorial development: agriculture and migration in the south of the State of Mexico. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2019, vol.19, n.59, pp.1243-1274. ISSN 2448-6183.  https://doi.org/10.22136/est20191207.

Based on the territorial approach of rural development, the relationship between migration and agriculture in the southern zone of the State of Mexico is analyzed. With a mixed methodology, information was obtained from 20 semi-structured interviews and from 100 questionnaires applied in the municipality of Almoloya de Alquisiras, from 2015 to 2017. The results show that migrants try to maintain self-consumption agriculture, while at the same time the sector is committed to modern and commercial agriculture, through various factors that are considered opportunities for the formulation of public policies of rural territorial development in migration contexts.

Keywords : Rural development; migration; agriculture; territory; Almoloya de Alquisiras.
