The present work analyzes the method of poverty lines applied in two rural localities in the municipality of Tepetlaoxtoc, State of Mexico, Mexico. Firstly, we describe globalization and neoliberalism as political-economic factors that have fostered in increment of poverty in Mexico and the methods that are currently used to measure it. Later on, the results are mentioned after carrying out a census related to the income of population in order to determine the family and per capita income level in two rural localities. According to the familial income, strata were formed to classify poor and non-poor families; we found that circa 50% of the families from both localities are in income poverty conditions.
