This article analyses the Mexican public policies focussed into tourism that, according to the development plans, have as a main objective to "make of Mexico a competitive product for tourism". It is due to this fact that tourism enterprises look for development under schemes of total quality control in order to enter the global tourist markets. The aim of this study is to identify the areas of opportunity for Mexico as a tourist destination, as well as to define proposals that improve the management and strategic planning of the Mexican tourism.
