Abstract

GRACIA-HERNANDEZ, Maximiliano. Economic effects of the convergence criteria in the Bulgarian and Rumanian process of insertion into the European Union. Econ. soc. territ [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.30, pp.229-258. ISSN 2448-6183.

We analyse the incorporation or Rumania and Bulgaria into the European Union (EU) with emphasis on the effects of convergence criteria when applied to their internal economies. We then present a brief historical review of the creation of the EU and of the convergence criteria required for the candidate countries. Finally, we concentrate on the economic transformations carried out by Bulgaria and Rumania and the effects they have had in their economies (mainly on their GDP, inflation, employment and public finances).

Keywords : European Union; criteria of incorporation; convergence criteria; Bulgaria; Rumania.
