PALMA-NAVA, Adriana; PAVON-IBARRA, Ivonne; DOMINGUEZ-MORA, Ramón  y  CARMONA-PAREDES, Rafael Bernardo. Estimation of natural recharge in the Mexico Basin by applying the APLIS method. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, e1903.  Epub 04-Nov-2022. ISSN 2594-0732.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fi.25940732e.2022.23.2.016.

The objective of this study is the estimation of the natural recharge in the Basin of Mexico from the application of the APLIS method, which is a tool for estimating the average annual recharge rate in carbonate aquifers, from the infiltration of rainfall in aquifers. Rate is expressed as a percentage of precipitation, using the following variables: Altitude (A), Slope (P), Lithology (L), preferential Infiltration layers (I) and Soil (S). Categories or intervals have been assigned for each variable, establishing a value between 1 (minimum influence on recharge) and 10 (maximum influence) and they have been stored in a Geographical Information System. This allows the overlap in the GIS of the layers of information corresponding to the variables to calculate the recharge rate and obtain the spatial distribution of it. The results obtained show that average natural recharge rate in the study area corresponds to a Moderate recharge rate with a value of 43 %. The low recharge rate appears represented in the central area of the basin, coinciding with the lacustrine deposits. The highest recharge rates occur in the periphery of the study area, where the highest slopes and highest rainfall are found. The results show that the most important area in terms of extension and quantity of natural recharge of the basin is found in the west and south of Mexico City, with recharge zones representing almost a third of its territory and with a value of approximately 9 m3/s.
