ORTEGA-RAMIREZ, Angie Tatiana; MARIN-MALDONADO, Diego Fernando  e  OCHOA-RODRIGUEZ, Edgar Danilo. Design of a numerical model for the selection of wells suitable for water production control. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, e1769.  Epub 02-Maio-2022. ISSN 2594-0732.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fi.25940732e.2022.23.1.006.

The research embodied in this article aims to present the results obtained during the design of a numerical model for the selection of wells suitable for the control of water production in oil fields and, simultaneously, to propose a useful tool for companies in the sector. Said tool starts from an algorithm that involves computational interactions, programmed in Visual Basic, in order to present clear information on the intrusion mechanisms of the water into the well that allows to better base the decision to intervene a well in the background for water control, evaluating variables that affect the process such as BSW, water production, water-oil ratio (RAP), profitability of extraction projects, total fluid production, among others. Methodologically, a qualitative and quantitative analysis was carried out of a representative sample of producing wells from the “Campo Castilla”, located in Colombia. These wells present excessive water production, which requires a REGIME-type multicriteria analysis, supported by an expert matrix that allows the variables to be ranked according to the degree of importance when selecting the candidate wells for a water production control. Subsequently, the decision tree is designed according to the hierarchy of the variables and finally the algorithm for selecting candidate wells for water production control is programmed, using Excel together with its Visual Basic developer interface. This numerical model is supported by the models of the Chan curves, which allow us to finally validate the feasibility of subjecting a well to a water control treatment by evaluating its current operating conditions.
