An economic and financial feasibility study about the manufacture of wildland firefighting safety footwear in Mexico is presented. Footwear design and performance specifications are based on international standards. An analysis of the Mexican market based on information from primary and secondary sources and the technical feasibility study for the manufacture of the wildland firefighting safety footwear by the Mexican footwear industry is presented based on the premise of a new production line in an already stablished security footwear factory. Technical feasibility was based in identifying the main components of the wildland firefighting safety footwear, the manufacture process, the machinery, and equipment necessary to manufacture the product here in Mexico. Economic and financial feasibility assessment was based in the estimation of the following indicators: net present value, internal return rate and the equilibrium point. Furthermore, a canvas type business proposal model is included. Results point out that there is an unsatisfied market demand for this type of product since the product manufactured in Mexico does not meet international standards. The feasibility study reports values of 39.36 % Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and 4,195,390.36 Net Present Value (NPV) which indicate a positive feasibility to manufacture wildland firefighting safety footwear in Mexico. This feasibility study opens new opportunities for the Mexican footwear industry, contributing to the fabrication of safety footwear for the wildland firefighter personnel complying with international standards at a competitive cost compared to the imported product here in Mexico, and to also improve the security of the Mexican wildland firefighters and the efficiency to combat wildland fires.
