SALGUERO-LUNA, Sergio Alberto e JOVANOVIC-DOLECEK, Gordana. Increasing the flexibility of comb compensator design using particle swarm optimization. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2. Epub 30-Jul-2021. ISSN 2594-0732. https://doi.org/10.22201/fi.25940732e.2021.22.2.014.
Comb filter is the simplest decimation filter which has all coefficients equal to unity and consequently does not require multipliers. However, comb filter has a passband droop which may deteriorate the decimated signal and should be compensated by the filter called comb compensator. This paper presents the design of multiplierless wideband comb compensator with the magnitude response synthesized of two sinusoidal functions. The magnitudes of sinusoidal functions determine the performance of the compensator. First, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is applied to obtain the optimum values of the magnitudes of sinusoidal functions changing the number of cascaded combs K, from one to six. The obtained values are practically independent of the decimation factor M, for M > 10.The obtained optimum values result in a minimum absolute maximum value of the passband deviation of the compensated comb. Next, the magnitudes of sinusoidal functions are represented as sum of powers of two varying the number of sums from 0 to 6, resulting in a total number of compensator adders varying from 9 to 15. The resulting absolute values of the maximum passband deviation approach those obtained in PSO, for the maximum number of adders of 15. The comparisons with methods from literature show benefit of the proposed method.
