Abstract

RENDON-RODRIGUEZ, Katherine; AZOCAR-BARRETO, Eduardo  and  CASTILLO-CAMPOS, Luis. Dehydrated pectin of Passiflora edulis as mineral scales inhibitor. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2020, vol.21, n.1, e00010.  Epub Aug 03, 2020. ISSN 2594-0732.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fi.25940732e.2020.21n1.010.

This study consisted in the evaluation of the dehydrated pectin based on Passiflora edulis applicability as a mineral scale inhibitor. Pectin was obtained by a process of acid hydrolysis, precipitation of the pectinic substance and subsequent dehydration. It was characterized physically and chemically. A synthetic water was formulated based on the NACE TM0374-2007 standard, and was characterized physically and chemically. Subsequently, the inhibitors were formulated at concentrations of 2 %, 4 % and 6 % m/V, also considering pectin particles greater than or equal to 841 microns and less than or equal to 420 microns. On the other hand, the efficiency of pectin was evaluated as an antifouling in different samples of synthetic water, governed by the NACE TM 0374-2007 standard, obtaining that the most efficient inhibitor was 6 % m/V. Finally, a multiple comparison procedure was applied between the formulated inhibitors and HCl, resulting in averages that did not show statistically significant differences. In synthesis, the Passiflora edulis -based dehydrated pectin proved to be efficient in the process of inhibiting the precipitation of calcium scale sulfate mineral deposits (CaSO4), improving this based on a higher concentration and a smaller particle size.
