Abstract
VERA-ROMERO, Iván et al. Biogas as an alternative source of primary energy for the Jalisco state, Mexico. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.3, pp.307-320. ISSN 2594-0732.
In Mexico as in many developing countries a large amount of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is produced, which could be used for the generation of biogas. Therefore, this study presents an energy and economic analysis for the use of the methane fraction contained in biogas, as primary energy, from the organic decomposition of three types of manure (bovine, porcine and avian) and MSW generated throughout the state of Jalisco, as an alternative for the production of electric energy. Investment costs were considered for the construction of biodigesters, landfills and internal combustion engines (ICE), as well as their operation and maintenance over a 21-year project. A cumulative net present value analysis was performed and the time of the recovery of the investment with and without carbon credits was estimated for the twelve regions that comprise Jalisco. Higher electricity generation is obtained from biodigesters (16.977GWh) than from landfills (4.373GWh), as well as greater economic benefits at the end of the project's lifetime 1,994x106 USD and 308 x106 USD, respectively.
