Resumen

CAMPOS-ARANDA, D.F.. Related Techniques to Flood Frequency Analysis in Watersheds with Urban Development. Ing. invest. y tecnol. [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.3, pp.385-392. ISSN 2594-0732.

Conventional flood frequency analysis (FFA) assumes that the annual maximum flows are independent, random events and that the stochastic process generating these events is stationary with respect to time. These assumptions are often invalid when analyzing urban flood data, because changes in the degree of urbanization in the watersheds affect the magnitude of flood flows. The purpose of this work is to describe techniques related to FFA that are applicable in records with important effects of urbanization, that is non-homogeneous. There are three possible approaches: (1) determination of the homogeneous period of the record and its FFA, (2) identification and removal of the trend in the record and subsequent FFA of the residuals and (3) adjustment of the record to a homogeneous condition by using a particular urbanization index. These techniques are described in detail and a numerical application is presented. The conclusions point out the importance of these techniques in the near future, applied to watersheds nearby the cities.

Palabras llave : urbanization; homogeneity; trend; GEV distribution.
