Resumen

CHAVEZ-SOTO, Tania; CERVERA-GOMEZ, Luis; VILCHIS-MATA, Iván  y  GARROCHO-RANGEL, Carlos. Socio-spatial explanation of the digital divide in the intra-metropolitan area of Toluca. Pap. poblac [online]. 2021, vol.27, n.110, pp.159-199.  Epub 13-Ene-2023. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2021.110.34.

We explore who, where, how much and why suffer from the first level Digital Divide in the intra-metropolitan area of Toluca. On a global scale and in each of its 12,307 blocks. The literature does not report works that examine these questions with this spatial disaggregation. We use a Socio-spatial Index of Digital Gap, spatial autocorrelation techniques, and a Geographically Weighted Regression model, explaining the phenomenon in statistical terms, with global and block significance. The most important explanatory variables were: schooling, religion, population density, migration, and ethnicity. Education is a crucial variable. We outline a policy to reduce the Digital Divide according to the socio-territorial realities of the ZMT.

Palabras llave : First level digital divide; Toluca Metropolitan Area; geographically weighted regression.
