The objective of this study was to test the invariance across sexes of a psychosocial model to predict sexual infidelity, which has been validated without including sex. Seven scales to assess sexual sensation seeking, marital aggrandizement, attitude toward own infidelity, marital satisfaction, sexual satisfaction, sexual infidelity behavior, and desire for sexual infidelity were applied to a sample of Monterrey, Mexico 422 women and 368 men. Random route sampling was used. The model was valid for both sexes, but not strictly invariant. The sexual sensation seeking and dissatisfaction are the most different aspects between sexes. It is concluded that the differences found can be understood from the greater sexual freedom that culture grants to man, whereas female sexuality is limited to marriage.
