Mexico is a country of inequalities. This study presents an analysis of causes of death related to the condition of affiliation to health services as a proxy for the location in the social structure for those who died in Mexico in the first fifteen years of the 21st century. Percentage of the main causes of death by condition of affiliation to social security and other health services of the deceased were calculated, and sociodemographic characteristics, mortality rates by sex and age and premature deaths by cause were analyzed, for the period 2000-2015. Similarities and discrepancies of the distributions found are highlighted. Considerations are made about risks constellations affecting Mexican population as a whole and its variations among the five groups identified. Some issues about the data construction come to light. It concludes with some reflextions about certain directions of recent health policies.
