Abstract

MANZANARES-RIVERA, José Luis. Public health expressions in the Mexican urbanization context: Allergic Rhinitis hospital admissions in Metropolitan areas. Pap. poblac [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.101, pp.51-81.  Epub June 26, 2020. ISSN 2448-7147.  https://doi.org/10.22185/24487147.2019.101.23.

Rhinitis is a public health issue of global concern that is linked to the population transition to urban settings where negative externalities such as air pollution represent potential risk factors. This work allows to present the Mexican case using a spatial & temporal approach that provides useful information to monitor this disease evolution. Results suggest that even though the urban condition may be regarded as a determinant, the complexity of environmental factors found in each metropolitan area determines its presence, therefore design of public policy measures at a regional level should adapt to local conditions. Especially climate related factors become a key explanatory factor in the documented Mexican experience.

Keywords : Rhinits; urbanization; Mexico.
