The rural-urban migration is a growing phenomenon in the state of Chiapas, and the city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the state, has become one of the main destinations of migrant families. The objective of this research was to estimate the magnitude, characteristics and effects of child labor in female-headed households in marginal urban neighborhoods of the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas. A survey was conducted of three marginal urban neighborhoods and were conducted workshops with children aged five to 17 years. Information of 845 domestic groups and 1 003 children between five and 17 years, of which 16.5 percent are female-headed households was obtained.
