ACOSTA, Félix; REYES, Alejandra  e  SOLIS, Marlene. Economic crisis, internal migration and changes in the occupational structure of Tijuana, Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2015, vol.21, n.85, pp.9-46. ISSN 2448-7147.

Tijuana, as a border city, has been a meeting point for the arrival of thousands of men and women from the interior of the country in search of job opportunities or to follow the path towards the United States. This article discusses the effects of the recent economic crisis and high unemployment rates in Mexico's northern border region to explain the various changes in employment of migrants in relation to the natives. Recent trends towards polarization of the occupational structure, segmentation and labor precarization, have given a new face to the city, which went from constituting a place of opportunities to one of social and job uncertainty so it has been already observed a decrease in the social component of its population growth in the decade, from 2000 to 2010.

Palavras-chave : Internal migration; occupational structure; Tijuana; economic crisis; employment.
