Abstract

CANO, Verónica  and  SOFFIA, Magdalena. Studies on international migration in Chile: notes and commentaries for an up-to-date investigation agenda. Pap. poblac [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.61, pp.129-167. ISSN 2448-7147.

With the object of providing relevant inputs for international migration experts and for those beginning to explore the matter, this document describes, through an exhaustive revision of its main exponents, crucial themes, and dimensions, the state-of-the-art of the studies referred to migration in the country. The first part explores the studies of past overseas immigration, whereas the second reviews the studies on recent intraregional immigration. The third section analyses the investigations on Chilean's emigration, the fourth considers the studies of migration policies and, finally, highlights the issues that need to be further developed. The existing collection of studies on the matter turns out to be modest, which makes it a very attractive field for further investigation.

Keywords : international migration; inmigration; interculturality; Chile.
