Resumen

HAM CHANDE, Roberto  y  GONZALEZ GONZALEZ, César A.. Discrimination in advanced ages in Mexico. Pap. poblac [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.55, pp.35-58. ISSN 2448-7147.

Greater longevity, altogether with technologic, social and economic changes are reconfiguring the manner the elderly are considered and treated. The concomitance between discrimination and aged population is approached in the first National Survey on Discrimination in Mexico (Encuesta Nacional sobre Discriminación en México). This article's objective is to distinguish the perception and concepts the elderly have about themselves and discrimination, as well as learn if they have been subject to a discriminatory action due to their aged condition. The survey contains 761 registrations of people of 60 years of age and older, seeking national level presence; gender, age and educational level are included as analysis axes. There is a general perception that elderly people are unprotected. The very elderly consider discriminatory to be treated differently and be put aside because of their age. A third part feels they have been discriminated.

Palabras llave : discrimination; demographic aging; social exclusion; vulnerable groups; Mexico.
