This text briefly analyses the national governmental machineries in charge of families oriented programmes. It summarizes problems and changes detected by the governmental authorities, as well as policies and programmes oriented to Latin-American families. It can be concluded that there are no innovative policies towards families in the region. A set of proposals is suggested for the design of policies oriented towards the constitution of democratic families.
