This article explores the relationship between the characteristics of the spatial social division at the metropolitan level and the residential intra-metropolitan mobility of households in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM in Spanish) for the period 1995-2000, using the census sample (2000). The social division of the metropolitan space is analyzed by contrasting the household income strata according to metropolitan jurisdictions (municipalities and jurisdictions that comprises de ZMVM) and by studying the changes in the income distribution due to residential mobility. Also, this article analyzes the role played by the jurisdictions -access to housing, in residential mobility and the resulting patterns of spatial distribution of housing supply according to household income strata.
