This article aimes to analyze the growing violence phenomena within the contemporary societies as an extra expression of the weakening of the social control model arouse from modernity. For this, the traditional approaches of violence will be reviewed, the outstanding characteristics of the new morphology of present societies will be pointed out and the recent sociological interpretations of this phenomena will be discussed. The article ends with the proposition that there exists a search for the imposition of a new model of social control we name pos-democratic. This model looks forward to the naturalization of the social inequalities that generate conflicts in contemporary societies by facing an alternative model that aimes to wide the forms of negotiation among the recent inequalities and conflicts generated inside of it.
