Abstract

LINDON, Alicia. Una nueva configuración territorial en el antiguo Chalco. Pap. poblac [online]. 2001, vol.7, n.30, pp.163-182. ISSN 2448-7147.

The analysis of the metropolitan phenomena of Mexico City from a territorial perspective shows that the southeast is one of the zones of most rapid expansion by the city in the two most recent decades. Since the mid-seventies, the Valley of the Chalco has been the most dynamic territory within the southeast. On the other hand, the Old Chalco, from wich the Valley of Chalco was detached, usually has remained eclipsed as an expression of the expansion of the city on the periphery. Nevertheless, at the present Old Chalco is the scene of a very wide range process of metropolitan expansion. Even when in Old Chalco urban expansion does not reach the magnitude that the Valley of Chalco has had, there has been unleashed a variety of forms of urban expansion that have not been noticed in other cases and which could represent important processes of change in the metropolitan structure of Mexico City. The combination of an ensemble of processes has resulted in the generation of the current territorial configuration, wich is analyzed in this paper.
