In the last decades, the impoverishment of the Latin American societies has been combined with the natural one in a dramatic way. In the social thing, the region faces a substantial increase in the incidence of poverty; in what nature aspect is refered, one of the clearest expressions of its impoverishment is the deforestation process, that in the last 30 years has been devastated two million square kilometers, approximately. This article reviews the environmental crises in Latin America and outlines a series of tasks to structure a Latin American environmental history.
