In this study which is about a balance of the urban research in the most part of the Latin America countries, to establish certain basic criterions to formulate a investigation schedule for the future. The study is based on serious studies already done by the international project of Initiative Global for Urban Investigation (GURI), and are applied in three sub-regions, which recount the beginning and the evolution of the urban investigation in each sub-region; aspects of development as theoretical perspectives as a urban investigation, the research themes, the involved disciplines and the institutional structures in the support of the investigation, putting emphasis in the comparative analysis of the sub-regions (Mexico-Colombia and Central America; Brazil and Venezuela; the Mountain Climber Countries and others south cone) and in the importance of the political-institutional aspects in the development of the investigation.
