RAMIREZ-RAMIREZ, Leticia Nayeli e BRAVO-DELGADO, Monserrat. Experiences in Transitioning from Doctoral Degrees to Employment: A Phenomenological Study of Doctoral Programs in Private Universities in Mexico. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.91, pp.1193-1215. Epub 13-Dez-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.
This research, of a qualitative/phenomenological nature, analyzes the experiences of transitioning from Mexico's privately funded doctoral programs to the labor market. Seven recent graduates of doctoral programs in Mexico City participated in the study, which compiled data from semi-structured interviews conducted online. The emerging categories of the content analysis were: 1) resources for completing the doctoral program; 2) tensions and challenges in completing the doctoral program; 3) experiences of graduation and employment; 4) competencies developed in the doctoral program; and 5) identities deployed in the transition. The article discusses the implications of the findings in the curricular design of private doctoral programs in the social sciences, as well as the social/critical aspects of professional development and the access to job opportunities for doctoral students.
