DIAZ-BARRIGA, Ángel. Teacher Education Policies in Mexico. Between Oblivion and the Challenge of Transformation. RMIE [online]. 2021, vol.26, n.89, pp.533-560. Epub 04-Jun-2021. ISSN 1405-6666.
Disagreement exists in Mexico in relation to the schools of education that train elementary and secondary school teachers (normal schools). The debate has emphasized that the institutional deterioration of these schools is expressed in decreased enrollment, the composition of their faculty, and their plans of study; in parallel form, the suggestion has been made to eliminate these schools or transfer initial teacher education to other institutions of higher learning. This article, based on seven topics, reviews national policies on normal schools, recognizing their evolution in the 20th century and the 21st century to date.
