Resumen

The current study shares reflections on the assessment policies applied in the educational sector. The aim is to point to their limitations as a sole resource for improving the school system and question the predominant view that recognizes as true any result produced by an assessment exercise. The article proposes taking into account the experiences derived from such policies, as a starting point for orienting future initiatives in assessment. By emphasizing some of the prominent characteristics of assessment, including the power of orientation, the predominance of a logic of distribution of reward and punishment, the harmful effect of high-impact consequences, and other characteristics, the proposal is to construct another perspective for designing and applying assessment practices in the future.
