Abstract

ARAYA CRISOSTOMO, Sandra; MONZON GODOY, Víctor Hugo  and  INFANTE MALACHIAS, María Elena. Interdisciplinarity in the Words of Biology Teachers: From Theoretical Comprehension to Educational Practice. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.81, pp.403-429. ISSN 1405-6666.

This study presents a research project focused on biology teachers’ perceptions of the concept of interdisciplinarity and their experience with interdisciplinarity in their teaching work. The research was carried out in the city of Talca, Chile, in secondary schools (students ages 14 to 18). The participants were 25 teachers, who answered a survey of open-ended questions; their responses were analyzed qualitatively through discursive textual analysis. The results revealed that the teachers perceive interdisciplinarity only as the juxtaposition of disciplines, without convergence and enrichment of areas of knowledge.

Keywords : interdisciplinarity; science teaching; biology; teaching work.
