Abstract

MORALES-CARUNCHO, Xana  and  CHACON-GORDILLO, Pedro. Perception and Knowledge of Two Groups of Future Elementary School Teachers regarding Art Education and the Skills It Develops. RMIE [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.77, pp.527-546. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents a joint case study carried out with two groups of future elementary school teachers studying at Universidad de Granada. The purpose was to use qualitative and quantitative methodologies to research the meaning of art education for these two groups of future teachers, and to determine if they are familiar with the skills that art develops. We started with the knowledge acquired by the participants in the required subject of Teaching and Learning in the Visual and Plastic Arts. After analyzing the obtained data, we concluded that the future teachers under study value the importance of art education as a subject and know many of the skills it develops. They are most aware of the development of skills of a practical/productive and expressive/creative nature.
