Abstract

HERRADA-VALVERDE, Gabriel  and  HERRADA VALVERDE, Rosario Isabel. Procedural Competencies for Writing Abstracts: The Case of Students from the School of Education at Universidad de Salamanca. RMIE [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.77, pp.505-525. ISSN 1405-6666.

An aspect of vital importance for students’ academic progress, especially in the university setting, is the development of tasks of synthesis. The techniques of synthesis, such as writing abstracts, facilitate the understanding of complex texts and the construction of knowledge, provided that adequate procedures are employed. To determine the influence of the moment in time of academic education and the textual format of writing abstracts, we analyzed the procedures that entering and graduating education students use to summarize printed texts and texts with hyperlinks. The obtained results suggest that the time of education influences the use of certain procedures, although neither this factor nor the textual format seems to promote successful completion of the task.

Keywords : reading comprehension; abstracts; texts; hypertext; higher education.
