Abstract

GALLEGOS-CAZARES, Leticia; CALDERON-CANALES, Elena  and  FLORES-CAMACHO, Fernando. A Multicultural Analysis of the Notion of Color among Children in an Indigenous Community, Based on an Educational Intervention. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.74, pp.837-861. ISSN 1405-6666.

This study discusses the ideas that indigenous children in elementary school construct about the notion of color, before and after using an educational proposal. The initial consideration is that the students are immersed in a multicultural world where they develop specific competencies for school, domestic, and ethnic cultures. Used for the analysis were various approximations that express different types of knowledge. The results show that three cultures co-exist in the students’ explanations, but that each culture is constructed independently. The teaching proposal improved students’ learning since they constructed better explanations and began to consider color as a quality rather than an object.
