Resumen

FRANCO GARCIA, Martha Josefina. Educational Systems and Immigration. A Look at Education in the United States and Mexico. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.74, pp.705-728. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this study is to review and compare the educational systems in the United States and Mexico, with a focus on the attention paid to immigrant children. The research is of a documentary type. The results indicate that in spite of both countries’ interest in offering elementary education, exclusion is reflected in the scholastic failure of students who do not adjust to established parameters. In this sense, we can conclude that educational processes, and specifically the programs designed for teaching immigrant children in the United States, tend to exclude and segregate these children because of their cultural and social differences. The Mexican educational system, on the other hand, requires students to adapt to school practices that are univocal and centralized, thus preventing education from covering students’ needs and expectations.
