DI NAPOLI, Pablo Nahuel. Youthful Sociability in the School Setting: An Analysis of the Motives for Decreasing or Increasing Distance among Secondary School Students in Argentina. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.73, pp.585-612. ISSN 1405-6666.
The aim of this paper is to analyze the forms of sociability among secondary school students in two state-managed schools in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The research was of a qualitative nature, and its empirical corpus consists of sociograms, in-depth interviews, and focus groups carried out with students in 2012 and 2014. First, the types of young people’s groups in each school are analyzed. Then the students’ motives for selecting or rejecting classmates are researched. Lastly, the different forms of sociability in each school are interpreted to be associated with the degree of student mobility in each institution.
