Abstract

TRIGUEROS-CERVANTES, Carmen; RIVERA-GARCIA, Enrique  and  DELGADO-PENA, José Jesús. ICT and the Older Adult Student in University Programs for Older Adults, from the Teacher’s Perspective: Analysis in the Spanish Context. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.72, pp.273-293. ISSN 1405-6666.

The object of this study was to analyze the role of information and communication technology (ICT) from the faculty’s perspective. With a qualitative focus, a discussion group was used as the methodology and the nvivo software as the facilitator in the process of analyzing the information produced. Through qualitative methodology, the discussion group debated the use of ICT as a subject of learning and a teaching resource. A series of perceived weaknesses should be considered in possible improvements, especially in the settings of teacher training and student motivation. The study proved the need to eliminate the resistance to new technologies in order to minimize the effects of the digital gap, and to develop, through permanent learning, ways to train citizens who are more integrated into society, especially at older ages.

Keywords : technological education; older adults; teacher conceptions; adult education; Spain.
