PEREZ GALVAN, Luis Manuel y OCHOA CERVANTES, Azucena de la Concepción. Student Participation in a Secondary School: Challenges and Possibilities for Citizenship Training. RMIE [online]. 2017, vol.22, n.72, pp.179-207. ISSN 1405-6666.
School is considered a space for training in democracy and citizenship. However, because of its hierarchical structure, it is incompatible with education in democratic values. This it is necessary to carry out practice exercises in participation while providing training in active citizenship. With that objective, a learning-service project was used with a group in the third year of secondary school (18 males and 12 females) in the state of Querétaro, Mexico. The information was compiled through a questionnaire that inquired about students’ ideas on participation before and after the intervention, as well as participant observation and the field log. The findings were that ideas about participation changed qualitatively after the intervention and that the students were involved in all project phases.
