VALDES CUERVO, Ángel Alberto; CARLOS MARTINEZ, Ernesto Alonso; TANORI QUINTANA, Jesús  y  MADRID LOPEZ, Esthela Jacqueline. Relation between Family Functioning, Moral Emotions, and Violence in Elementary School Students. RMIE [online]. 2016, vol.21, n.71, pp.1093-1110. ISSN 1405-6666.

This study researches the empirical sustainability of a theoretical model whose purpose is to establish relations among parental conflict, positive child-raising, restorative discipline, family support, moral emotions (empathy and shame), and the frequency of aggressions among students. Participating in the study were 664 elementary school students. The results of the structural analysis reveal good adjustment of the model, which explained the 52% variance in the frequency of student aggression toward peers (X2= 7.38, p= .117; CMIN= 1.84; SRMR= .019; AGFI= .96; CFI= .99; RMSEA= .05 IC [.038, .072]). The conclusion is that the characteristics of family functioning affect the development of moral emotions, such as empathy and shame, which are associated with a lower frequency of aggression among students.
