Abstract

CAVIERES FERNANDEZ, Eduardo. Teaching Citizenship Amidst Conflict: History Teachers and Student Mobilizations in Chile. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.67, pp.1311-1334. ISSN 1405-6666.

During the past decade in Chile, the participation of secondary school students in student mobilizations has increased. The current research, based on 36 interviews with secondary history teachers from six Chilean cities, asks if student mobilizations in Chile constitute a form of youthful participation pertinent to curricular training in citizenship. The study concludes that teachers value these mobilizations and effectively include the topic in their teaching, in spite of various conflicts within the school system.
