CORTEZ ROMAN, Nolvia Ana; GARCIA LOYA, Arelys Karina y ALTAMIRANO RUIZ, Adriana I.. Immigrant Students Back in Mexico: Strategies Implemented to Attain a University Education. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.67, pp.1187-1208. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article presents a preliminary analysis of an ethnographic study of immigrant university students who have returned to Mexico from the United States. Based on in-depth interviews with four of these young people, this article presents the stories of the strategies they used to deal with US legal policies created to marginalize undocumented immigrants hoping to obtain a higher education. These young people see their return to Mexico as a potential strategy for reaching the professional identity they have visualized. The Mexican educational system needs to recognize the presence of these students who are bringing back bilingual and transcultural skills.
