Abstract

TELLO, César  and  MAINARDES, Jefferson. Pluralisms and Research in Educational Policy: An Epistemological Perspective. RMIE [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.66, pp.763-788. ISSN 1405-6666.

Studies of educational policy employ the category of pluralism in a polysemic way as perspective, theory, and/or method; such polysemy generates the theoretical problem this article addresses. Specifically, it analyzes pluralism as an epistemological perspective for research in educational policy, and is based on the Focus of Epistemologies of Educational Policy. For this reason, we develop three angles of analysis of the category of pluralism, which at times are employed indistinctly: as an epistemological perspective, political theory, and method of analysis. Based on this review, we seek to enrich the debate on the conceptions of pluralism in studying educational policy. We argue that greater conceptual depth of pluralism is required in its diverse meanings, and that in spite of the critics, this perspective, when employed in a reflective and solid manner, offers relevant elements for research in educational policy.

Keywords : epistemological analysis; research; educational policy.
