CHANSKY, Ricia Anne. Teaching in the Third Space: Construction of Identity in the Travel Accounts of Jamaica Kincaid, A Small Place and Among Flowers. RMIE [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.63, pp.1221-1243. ISSN 1405-6666.
This article promotes teaching based on a dialogical method of reading post-colonial Caribbean literature; the example used is work by Jamaica Kincaid, with specific emphasis on her travel narratives, A Small Place and Among Flowers: A Walk in the Himalaya. The article also suggests that utilizing Homi Bhabha's theory of the Third Space provides an effective pedagogical approach to Kincaid's travel narratives taught within the disputed space of the Caribbean. Discussion centers on how this pedagogical strategy creates a safe space for students to explore their own constructions of identity within the context of the Third Space.
