Abstract

HERNANDEZ ROJAS, Gerardo et al. Blenden Learning for Promoting Academic Writing Among University Students. RMIE [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.61, pp.349-375. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents an experience in blended learning aimed at developing academic writing skills among university students. The experience took place in a regular class integrated into the curriculum, using a socio-constructivist perspective and an action research design. The analysis is centered on the virtual aspect, especially on students' individual and collaborative contribution in discussion forums for constructing written productions (cognitive presence); also analyzed is the teachers' presence at these forums to support and encourage cognitive presence. The results show important student involvement in collaborative writing activities, and improvements in students' writing of monographs and perception of blended learning. The conclusion is that the proposed setting not only is viable but also is effective for improving academic writing skills and strengthening epistemic writing to benefit the learning of curriculum content.
