Resumen

GARCIA ALCARAZ, Jorge Luis; CORRALES PRIETO, Reyna Aracely  y  MALDONADO MACIAS, Aidé Araceli. Use of Laptops by University Students and the Impact on Academic Efficiency. RMIE [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.57, pp.561-583. ISSN 1405-6666.

One of the information and communications technologies that university students use the most is the laptop computer. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify the activities carried out most often with laptops, and to associate that usage with the benefits obtained. To achieve that end, a questionnaire was designed and validated with Cronbach's alpha. The instrument contains three sections and twenty-two items regarding demographic data, the uses made of laptops, and the benefits obtained. To identify the factors, factorial analysis was applied for each section, and to discover the associations, models of structural equations were generated. A direct relation was found to exist between academic uses and students' academic efficiency and effectiveness, but no such relation was discovered between software and laptops; laptop usage for entertainment purposes was seen to have no relation with students' academic efficiency.

Palabras llave : role of computers; students; higher education; factorial analysis; academic efficiency; Mexico.
