Abstract

GONZALEZ GAUDIANO, Édgar J.. Social Representation of Climatic Change: An International Review. RMIE [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.55, pp.1035-1062. ISSN 1405-6666.

The phenomenon of climatic change has attained unexpected relevance in the international setting. Its emergence has reactivated environmental policy as a whole, and environmental education for sustainability in particular. As in other emerging fields, a proliferation of research has arisen from diverse theoretical and methodological approximations. The current review of the international production of studies, in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, of the perception and social representation of the phenomenon attempts to provide a referential framework for formulating new questions. The objective is to identify erroneous beliefs, cognitive dissonance, confusion, doubts, obscure zones, and the reasons for the reduced willingness to act and assume personal and collective responsibility for the phenomenon. Lifestyles based on an unsustainable energy model must be transformed.

Keywords : environment; social representation; perception; education and communication; environmental education.
