Resumen

DESCHAMPS RAMIREZ, Paulina  y  RAMOS LARA, María de la Paz. Physics Teaching in the National School of Agriculture and Veterinary Science (19th Century). RMIE [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.54, pp.817-848. ISSN 1405-6666.

In 19th-century Mexico, agricultural instruction was immersed in a positivist system in which a scientific basis was fundamental for developing agriculture. Physics courses were among the most relevant in the education of agronomists, but not veterinarians. The difference was due to the high degree of industrial mechanization attained in agriculture, and its importance in favoring the creation of a specialized school in agricultural mechanics. For the first time in the history of higher education in Mexico, a study is presented to explain the classroom's influence in changing the education of agronomists in the field of physics, in order for them to apply their knowledge and contribute to the sector's modernization.

Palabras llave : history of science; higher education; physics teaching; agricultural education; Mexico.
