Abstract

JIMENEZ MORA, José Margarito; MORENO BAYARDO, María Guadalupe  and  ORTIZ LEFORT, Verónica. Cultures of Student Researchers in Doctoral Programs in Education: Reflections of a Field in the Process of Definition. RMIE [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.50, pp.919-933. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article presents findings from a case study on the academic cultures that permeate the practices and processes of training educational researchers in three doctoral programs in education at Mexican universities. Three specific groups of culture production are identified: students, educators, and administrators; the assumption is that each group constructs meanings for particular aspects of educational research within a training process for researchers. The article describes shared meanings in the three programs, as a way to approach the students' understanding of their work as educational researchers and the field of educational research, based on their experience in each doctoral program.

Keywords : educational research; academic culture; mental representation; researcher education; graduate studies; Mexico.
