Abstract

GARAY SANCHEZ, Adrián de  and  SANCHEZ MEDINA, Roberto Leonardo. Modification of the Undergraduate Admissions Policy at UAM: Its Impact on New Enrollment Profiles at the Azcapotzalco Campus. An Initial Approach. RMIE [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.50, pp.885-917. ISSN 1405-6666.

The objective of this article is to analyze the changes in the profiles of new enrollment at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM)-Azcapotzalco, based on the modification of the school's undergraduate admissions policy. A comparison of the graduating classes of 03-P and 08-P (the first class to enroll with the new admissions policy) showed that the second group had higher percentages of female students and students between ages seventeen and nineteen, a lower percentage of employed students, an increase in students with average high school grades from 8.0/10.0 to 8.9/10.0, as well as improved scores on entrance examinations. However, no substantial differences were identified in students' socioeconomic levels, institutionalized cultural capital, and study practices and habits.

Keywords : higher education; university admissions; student profile; new enrollment; admissions tests; Mexico.
